New possibilities in the field of resocialisation and education of convicts

The thesis deals with new possibilities and approaches in the field of education and resocialization of individuals in prison. The process of treatment of prisoners in the prison system is carried out by systematic and professional methods of treatment. At present, according to the current strategic document, the Concept of the Prison System until 2025, the main focus is on education and employment of persons in prison. The issue of resocialisation and further education of convicts is developed within the framework of social andragogy. The theoretical part will analyse the possibilities of using andragogical, social and social andragogical counselling in imprisonment. The sub-objective of the thesis is to characterize the individual stages of the counselling process and to define its contribution to the reintegration of convicts. New methods and their use in the framework of further education and resocialization of convicts will be observed within the research. This is especially the concept of an open prison, which is quite unique in the Czech Republic and is implemented within the Jiřice prison. The importance of education within the process of resocialization of convicts

This diploma thesis deals with the issue of education of people serving a prison term. Education represents the key tool of resocialization, i.e. a specialist work with convicts. The first part of the thesis is going to devote attention to resocialization and to the subsequent education of convicts in terms of prevention as well as in terms of the atonement by means of the integrative tools. Within the scope of the execution of the prison sentence, education is an essential part of the treatment programs, which are oriented to create the preconditions for an independent way of life. The theoretical part is also going to focus on the legislative embedding of education of convicts in the Czech Republic and the best practice from abroad. In the descriptive-analytical part, the focus is going to be laid on two particular institutions (the improsenment facility Světlá nad Sázavou, the improsenment facility Všehrdy) and their comparison. The aim of the work is to investigate the specifics of the choice of the formal education, mostly provided by school educational centres, and non-formal education provided directly by employees of the individual institutions. New approaches in penitentiary care - model of the Open Prison Jiřice

The aim of the rigorous work is to identify and characterize the innovative concept of penitentiary care applied in the treatment of convicted men in the building Open Prison in Jiřice. Emphasis is placed on the analysis of elements of innovation at the architectural level (modification of outdoor spaces "Open Prison", specific accommodation for convicts, construction of a breeding zone, cultivation zone, ornamental gardens) and at the socio-psychological level. This is reflected in the professional work and application of specifically focused activities of the treatment program. It is based on a higher degree of professional intervention in terms of the application of the method of "accompaniment" and "case management", an open approach of employees in a mutually constructive, supportive communication with convicts. In the practical part, a qualitative survey will be used, which will aim to compare selected areas of activities of the program of treatment of convicts included in the execution of imprisonment in a ward with a medium level of security and a low level of security. Prison with general security regime - high security department

The thesis aims to describe and analyze the process of professional treatment with emphasis on reducing criminogenic risks with convicted men placed into guarded prisons in section with a high level of security. Convicted criminals show diverse degrees of riskiness and different structures of criminogenic factors. In order for the Prison Service of Czech Republic to work with them effectively, it needs to know their criminological profile. For this stated purpose, it analyzes relevant anamnestic and special pedagogical data. The content of the treatment program is then determined based on their evaluation, which takes into account the variation of pedagogical, socio-legal and psychological approaches and methods, in regards to particular identified high-risk criminogenic factors and needs. The own research of the study, which forms the core of the practical/empiric part of the thesis, consists of the analysis of the self-reported assessed risk factors and subjectively percieved reactivity (alternatively analogous therapeutic responsiveness) and appropriate penitentiary-pedagogical interconnection of available treatment program activities. Role of the Labor Office in the reintegration of ex-offenders upon their release from imprisonment

The bachelor thesis maps the offer of services of the labor office in mediation of employment for persons after release from imprisonment. The outcome of the thesis is a recommendation to change the procedure of the Labor Office of the Czech Republic in mediation of employment after release from prison, so that these hardly employable persons are successfully placed on the labor market. These are only such changes in the process of employment mediation that are within the competence of the Labor Office Czech Rebuplic. The bachelor thesis consists of two parts, a part of theoretical basis and a part of the research. Theoretical basis focus on the execution of imprisonment, ie. penitentiary education and treatment program in prison and in the second half describe the services of the labor office. The research was carried out by quantitative research through a questionnaire survey among job applicants who were included in the register of job applicants after their release from prison. The quantitative survey maps the range of services offered by the labor office in recruitment for persons released from prison. Sentence od Life Imprisonment

Life imprisonment presents the most severe penalty that can be imposed according to the Czech legislation. It belongs to the system of capital punishments and the extreme severity of its imposition is subject to the legislator himself. In the Czech Republic, the imposition of life imprisonment is a unique phenomenon. A meticulous attention should be thereby paid to its legislation, which is exceptionally complex in the Czech Republic. It is equally important to provide persons who are serving the term of life imprisonment with social services, aid and a social worker, who plays one of the most important roles in the life of the convicted. The social worker enables the convicted to communicate with the social environment outside the penitentiary, to communicate with public administration bodies and, in addition, he provides the convicted with follow-up social services after his/her release or while serving the term. These services aim at the quality improvement of the life of the convicted. This bachelor thesis presents a document that may serve future social workers in the prison service as a supplementary material to their studies and work. It includes the overview of important information that the specific social worker should know and subsequently develop. This thesis encompasses the legislation of both - life imprisonment and social work and associated rights and duties. Moreover, this thesis defines specific terms that the social worker should know and understand - the treatment of prisoners and treatment programmes in particular. The thesis followed the method of document analysis, the analysis of laws, judicature, scholarly journals and books. It synthetises pieces of information that are necessary for a social worker to know and understand. The legislation of life imprisonment is carefully drafted in the Czech Republic, which tremendously helped me with dealing with related laws and regulations. 7 On the other hand, what surprised me was a lack of documents related to the legislation governing the social work in the prison service. In my opinion, this lack of documents in the designated area needs to be completed.

Psychological aspects of the consequences of criminal activity in convicted men serving imprisonment

The aim of the diploma thesis is to describe the consequences of imprisonment from a psychological point of view and to compare it with the testimonies of convicts. Every convicted person who gets into a prison is exposed to psychological problems associated with imprisonment. These problems can be associated not only with pleading guilty and accepting a sentence connected with a commited crime but also with, a transition from civil life to life in prison, adaptating to life in prison, dealing with restriction of freedom and restrictions of contact with their loved ones and so on. The thesis has a theoretical part divided into three chapters, where data has been added from transcripts of interviews with four sentenced men. The first chapter focuses on the characteristics of serving imprisonment, including the functions and the purpose of imprisonment and on penitentiary psychology. The second chapter describes the adaptation of prisoners to imprisonment in view of the length and frequency of imprisonment as well as the personality of the convicted person. The third chapter focuses on the psychological aspects of imprisonment (the second life of prisoners, aggression, bullying, suicide, self-harm, abuse and use of narcotic and psychotropic substances, limiting social contacts). The aim of the diploma thesis is to describe the consequences of imprisonment from a psychological point of view and to compare it with data from interviews with sentenced persons.

1 The therapeutic and educational approaches in forensic detention Autor: Mgr. Dušan Gáč Annotation The Forensic detention measure has not long tradition in the Czech Republic. It is a relatively new institution which exists in the Czech Republic as a protective measure since 2009. In this year the Act of Forensic Detention No. 129/2008 has become it's legitimacy. Experts as psychologists, pedagogues, jurists, psychiatrists and others participated on the establishment of the forensic detention measure. The main reason of this act was that the placement of extremely dangerous perpetrators in psychiatric hospitals had not met the safety criteria, and because the requirement for sophisticated protection of the society in connection with the proper professional care and treatment was not fulfilled. Consequently after the decade of existence of the Forensic detention facility in Brno the author of this rigorous thesis named ,,The therapeutic and educational approaches in forensic detention " balances the positives and negatives in work with detainees and implies the trend and approximative prognosis of its next development.
